Clinton Heights....and rainbows

Our work has continued on the Clinton Heights center in Northfield. We are well underway with framing on the exterior walls.

The weather has been very cooperative for work on this project. Spring often brings spells of rainy days, but they have not substantially interfered with our work on this project. I did manage to snap a photograph of a beautiful rainbow that showed up over the building Thursday evening.

It was the largest rainbow I’ve ever seen. Then, a moment later, a second rainbow appeared with it.

I think there is some kind of luck that is supposed to flow through a double rainbow. Maybe I’m supposed to purchase a lottery ticket!

Clinton Heights Retail Center

We started work this week on a new commercial building in Northfield. It is in the Clinton Heights Retail Center just off State Highway #3 and Jefferson Parkway in Northfield.

We are doing the steel work and framing work on the 12,300 square foot building. Jasnoch Construction company is the developer for this new commercial site. We previously worked with them to create some nice projects in Heritage Square in Northfield. The building was designed by JADE Architects and will have a nice blend of brick and stone masonry, cement siding and aluminum finishes.

It is great to see another commercial development getting underway in Northfield.

Northfield Home and Garden Show

Saturday I spent the majority of the day at the Northfield Home and Garden Show. I staffed the Northfield Construction Company booth with my son Tristan. This was held in the new Middle School again. I helped organize the first show in the old Middle School about 20 years ago and am so pleased to see it flourishing and expanding in many areas.

While the day was overcast and dreary, there were lots of people in attendance at the free show. It was too cold and wet to be doing any yard work so I suspect people were glad to have a warm, dry place to come and see new outdoor and home improvement products.

Lots of Northfield businesses were at the show. I ran into Doug Grove representing his landscape company.

Across the gym was Leif Knecht, with Knecht’s Nursery and Landscape. Leif and his crew hauled in pavers and laid a lovely brick patio for the show….a lot of effort that was appreciated by many people.

David Lansing was there in his Lansing Hardware booth. He had one of the more colorful booths, full of spring flowers, etc. Dave was one of the committee organizers for the show this year and did a great job getting things set for the show.

Right around the corner from Dave Lansing was the Liberty Tax Service booth. If you travel around Northfield on Highway 3 you’ve probably seen the ‘Statue of Liberty’ standing on the boulevard waving at you. There was a large, colorful statue at the show handing out gifts to the children.

Around mid-morning Jeff Johnson at KYMN radio interviewed me about the show. Jeff does a nice job on the radio and stays very up to date and informed about area and state issues.

On Monday morning Wayne Eddy will be returning to the air waves of KYMN radio. Wayne was one of the original founders of KYMN in the late 1960’s and owned and operated the station for many, many years. He retired a couple of years ago but it seems it is hard to keep a good voice off the air….it will be nice having him do some local coverage again.

I was also very pleased to see several of the area non-profit organizations with booths at the show. Cannon River Watershed Partnership had a very nice display, including a poster about storm water runoff.

ReNEW Northfield was there with a booth full of information about electricity use and production in Minnesota. Several people commented to me about the concept of a plug-in electric hybrid automobile.

I thank David Lansing, Larry Hoffer and everyone that worked so hard to make this year’s Home and Garden Show a great success.
